Правильные и неправильные глаголы (Regular and irregular verbs)

По способу образования прошедшего неопределенного времени (Past Indefinite) и причастия прошедшего времени (Past Participle) глаголы делятся на две группы: правильные и неправильные.

Правильные глаголы образуют Past Indefinite и Past Participle путем прибавления к форме инфинитива окончания -ed:

Infinitive	Past Indefinite	Past Participle
to open	opened	opened
to work	worked	worked
to expect	expected	expected

При образовании Past Indefinite и Past Participle правильных глаголов соблюдаются следующие правила орфографии:

a) Глаголы, оканчивающиеся в инфинитиве на немое -e, теряют эту гласную при добавлении -ed:

б) Глаголы, оканчивающиеся в инфинитиве на -y с предшествующей согласной, меняют y на i:

Если же перед y стоит гласная, то y сохраняется:

в) Если односложный глагол в инфинитиве оканчивается на одну согласную с предшествующим кратким гласным звуком, то конечная согласная удваивается:

г)Двусложные или многосложные глаголы, оканчивающиеся на одну согласную с предшествующим кратким гласным звуков, удваивают конечную согласную только в том случае, если ударение падает на последний слог:

Если глагол оканчивается на l, то l удваивается независимо от того, падает ли ударение на последний слог или нет:

По правилам орфографии, принятой в США, l удваивается только в том случае, когда ударение падает на последний слог:

К неправильным глаголам принадлежат глаголы, образующие Past Indefinite и Past Participle не путем прибавления окончания -ed к инфинитиву, а различными другими способами:

	Infinitive	Past Indefinite	Past Participle
1.Путем изменения корневого гласного формы инфинитива:	to begin to meet	began met	begun met
2.Путем изменения корневого гласного и прибавления окончания к форме инфинитива:	to speak to give	spoke gave	spoken given
3.Путем изменения окончания формы инфинитива:	to send to build	sent built	sent built

У некоторых неправильных глаголов все три формы одинаковы: to cut, cut, cut; to put, put, put.

Количество неправильных глаголов невелико, но к ним относятся многие самые употребительные глаголы. Неправильные глаголы рекомендуется заучивать в трех основных формах.

There are four seasons in the year: winter, spring, summer and autumn. Each of them lasts three months. Every season is beautiful in its own way. When spring comes nature awakens from its long winter sleep. The days become longer and the nights become shorter. The air is fresh, the sky is blue and cloudless, and the sun shines brightly. The trees are in full blossom. The days are warm and everything is full of life and joy. All kinds of plants and flowers come out. The birds return from the South and build their nests.

Spring is followed by summer. The weather gets still warmer and sometimes very hot, especially in July. Sometimes there are storms with thunder and lightning. The gardens are gay with flowers all summer months. In summer many people have holidays and vacations. They spend much time on the seashores, river beaches, in the forests and in the mountains. It is a good time to swim, to pick mushrooms, berries, flowers, go fishing and boating and become sunburnt.

Autumn begins in September. The days become shorter and nights longer. The sky is often cloudy. This is mostly a rainy season. The leaves turn yellow, red and brown and fall to the ground. Most birds fly away to warm countries. The farmers begin to harvest what they sowed in spring. But there are some sunny days in late September that is called Indian summer.

But gradually it gets colder and colder. The landscape becomes very dull. Nature slowly falls asleep. In winter the sun sets early and rises late. The days are the shortest and the nights are the longest. The rivers and lakes are frozen over. The sky is grey, the sun shines but doesn't give warmth. Everything is covered with snow. The weather gets frosty. Sometimes it is very cold, about 20-25 degrees below zero. Winter is a good time for sport.

As for me, I like all seasons, but best of all I like spring.

One day, a man comes home from work and finds his
blonde wife leaning over the kitchen sink and crying.
He said, "Honey, what's wrong?" She said between
sniffles, "I...I dropped the ice cubes on the floor,
and then I rinsed them off in hot water, and now I
can't find them."


В один прекрасный день муж возвратился домой с работы
- и увидел, что его прекрасная молодая жена-блондинка
вся в слезах сидит на кухне.
- Милая, что случилось?! - бросился он к ней.
Она отвечала ему, хлюпая носом:
- Я... Я: принесла кубики льда с подвала...
Прополоскала их кипятком... И НЕ МОГУ ИХ
